Dr. Crooks’ top tips for a healthy smile…
Create a fun daily brushing routine
It is important that children brush their teeth each day to help prevent decay and maintain healthy teeth and gums.
Children learn best by imitation. Make brushing fun by turning on their favourite song and brushing with them. If you start brushing from the very beginning of the song to the end, it will help make the time go much faster. Brushing together can help make brushing a fun part of your child’s daily routine.
Visit Dr Crooks regularly for check-ups
From around 3 years of age we recommend children visit Dr. Crooks for a check-up. This will help them become familiar with Dr. Crooks’ office by meeting her and her team.
When the day comes to meet Meet Dr. Crooks, we recommend that you make it an exciting event for your child. They will get to have a ride in the dental chair and find out more about their teeth. Dr. Crooks will count their teeth with them and take a photo of their mouth with the digital camera. Why not bring along their favourite toy to make them feel more comfortable.
Dr. Crooks’ kind and loving nature makes her a favourite with all of our young patients. She will make your child feel right at home and help them to understand the importance of caring for their teeth.
A healthy diet for healthy teeth
Healthy eating habits are beneficial to your child’s dental and overall well-being. A balanced diet can help to prevent decay while strengthening and protecting teeth. Encourage your child to eat healthy snacks and discuss their food choices with them.
Teeth friendly snacks include; Fresh Fruit & Vegetables, Cheese & Yoghurt, Crackers, Popcorn and Nuts. It is important to avoid foods high in sugar and starch which can cause cavities. Cookies, chips, sugary drinks (such as soft drinks) and roll-ups are fine as occasional treats. Plain water is the best to drink.
